I didn't see that this contained Oud, or I wouldn't have ordered it. If I HAD seen it and not ordered, I would have missed out on the ONLY Oud perfume that I can wear and love without reservation. Where have I been going wrong hating on Oud? Nowhere. Turns out, I am just parky. I love Cinammon, Clove, Saffron, I am a spicy Sun loving lass, and one of those who smells clove and thinks "Carnations" rather than "Dentist's chair". It seems the little drop of Oud works so well with the spicy vocalist content, holding it up from underneath to showcase it, rather than allowing it to get annoyingly screechy fronting the band. Think that scene from Miss Congeniality 2 when Gracie and Sam are performing the Tina Turner tribute hoisting Sam into the air to tumultuous applause. Yeah, like that. The baseline of Patchouli. Amber and sandalwood gives faintly evocative "gateway to the orient/hippie trail" vibes, not in your face in a Rajasthan marketplace way, more like being five miles behind the magic bus minus the armpits, as in, you know it's been there, but you're not in a hurry to overtake it. Despite the lack of citrus, there is something about this which makes me think (a) my late mother would have loved a bottle of this and (b) why am I thinking about the 1970s original Aqua Manda? Obviously it's gotta be at the bottom end. Might be tempted to run an experiment with some citrus just to see what happens. Anyway, I love it, it's not the longest lasting of perfumes, probably tailored that way cause, let's face it, too much clove and people start having nightmares about THAT dental scene in Running Man, and that's no way to sell perfume (try telling that to the folk who visualised Secretions Magnifique). A bit more vanilla would have rounded this off beautifully, but I am no perfumer, I am the consumer of all things olfactory. I immediately recommended it to a couple of chums who I know will leap upon it, waving their credit cards with glad cries.

Loving this. Tangy salt air, pinewoods on the breeze, hot rocks and driftwood. Very linear, long lasting and exceedingly pleasant and evocative of hot days at the gateway to the orient with your hair getting whipped around your face in the wind like a vacationing Cousin Itt... Nothing about this conjures up any British coastline I've ever experienced, no chips and vinegar, no sticky ice creams or vile alcopops, no icy cold blast freezing of your innards springing to mind. Kinda reminds me of Heeley's Sel Marin minus the citrus, which I also like very much. I struggle to detect any rose from top down, but, to be fair, I didn't expect to find a blast of rose in such a combination anyway. I'd wear this even in the depths of winter, for memories, and to confuse anyone happening to get caught in my fragrant trail. In short, ordered a FB on the back of a sample, for 'tis a lovely thing, and it lasts forever and a day.
